Ritual, Cacao & Sound Meditation

A Time to Honor Nature’s Final Harvest & Your Departed Loved Ones

Autumn is a season of transition. Because there is a lot of movement and change we can create balance for our mind, body and spirit by pausing for self-reflection. Join us for this seasonal celebration, it’s an evening retreat. Two dates and locations available.

  • Friday, October 27 from 6-8 PM at Souls Center in Spokane WA

  • Sunday, October 29 from 6-8 PM at Embody Studio in Sandpoint ID

Tradition holds that Samhain (pronounced “Sow-inn”) is a time to honor the end of harvest season and the start of the coldest half of the year. It’s also been referred to as The Celtic New Year.

In addition to being the last of the 3 harvest festivals that are part of the Wheel of the Year, Samhain can be a time to remember and honor the lives of those who have passed on from this plane. It often involves paying respect to ancestors, family members, elders of your faith, friends, pets, or other loved ones who have died.

When you celebrate Samhain you may want to remember that you are part of the natural world, you go through seasons too. Just like many of the trees shed their fruit and leaves, this season is about letting go, taking rest and bringing your energy back to your roots.

For thousands of years, human beings have honored their connection to the earth, the seasonal changes, and major life transitions with ceremony and ritual; they are an ancient technology of indigenous and earth based cultures, an inherent part of humanity’s past and its ancestral wisdom. It’s a way to celebrate life in all its forms. It’s a pause in time to be thankful for water, air, fire and land, as well as the plants, creatures, animals and minerals that exist on this planet with you.

You can use this gathering with community, cacao and sound to self-reflect and consider your intentions for the season. Gathering in this way can help to create inner balance so we can continue to act in harmony with others and the world around us.

The Ritual: Build an altar. Sit in a circle with community. Embodiment through movement.

This ritual is a celebration of the earth in our unique microclimate as well as the final harvest it has provided for us. We’ll also be witnessing ourselves and each other in a relationship of gratitude for bounty, beauty, the passing of time and the opportunity to rest.

You’ll be guided through a gentle, 10 minute moving body scan and half-sun salutations. This will help us feel grounded in our body and rooted in the present moment.

The Cacao: Attune to your senses. Sip. Attune again.

Enjoy a mindfulness based guided meditation with gentle movement and a serving of ceremonial grade Peruvian Cacao Criollo. The Cacao drink is made with 1 oz of Ceremonial Grade Cacao Paste, coconut milk, vanilla, and a touch of honey.

Cacao is the raw whole food form of chocolate. This velvety drink is plant medicine. It inspires euphoric states in the body. After you sip the Nitric Oxide production in your body increases, relaxing your arteries, which allows for increased blood flow. Cacao contains Anandamide. Termed “the bliss molecule” it’s associated with improved motivation and increased pleasure.

 The Sound: Resonance. Stillness. Rest.

In the Spokane event we’ll sing a few simple, earthy songs together. No singing experience necessary! We’ll be guided by singer, somatic educator and song carrier, Stefani. The singing will open our hearts and bring vibratory sensations to our bodies. After that, lie back for a restful, guided, awareness-based bodyscan with gentle singing bowls in the background.

In the Sandpoint event you’ll receive the healing vibrations of the gong while resting in stillness. A gong meditation is a form of sound therapy that brings deep relaxation and balance to our system. Letting go and immersing ourselves into the vibrations and sounds of the gong can bring us to a serene, peaceful, and connected state.
